Prinivil General Information
Prinivil is a drug that is derived from a synthetic peptide. It is a long acting oral ACE inhibitor. The chemical definition of this drug is (S)-1-[N2-(1-carboxy-3-phenylpropyl)-L-lysyl]-L-proline dehydrate. The color of the drug is white to off-white and is in crystalline powder in nature. It has a molecular weight of 441.52. The drug is not soluble in ethanol and is soluble in water. The drug is supplied in three strengths 5mg, 10 mg and 20 mg. These tablets are meant for oral administration only. The tablet has other inactive ingredients such as mannitol, calcium phosphate, magnesium stearate and starch. The tablets with 10mg and 20 mg also contain iron oxide as the ingredient. Precautions to be made in some of the patients while administrating the drug. The drug administration should be carefully monitored in the case of liver disease, kidney disease, diabetics, heart disease and congestive heart failure. The drug should be taken with precaution in patients who are having connective tissue problems such as Sjogren’s syndrome, lupus, scleroderma, Marfan syndrome, or rheumatoid arthritis. Pregnant women should consult with the doctor while taking this drug as it may harm the unborn. Women who are planning to be pregnant should also consult the doctor. An effective birth control pill should be taken while administrating the drug.
