How to Take Nifedipine SR
Patients should talk with their doctor about how often they should take Nifedipine SR. Each dose of Nifedipine SR should be taken with a full glass of water. Nifedipine SR needs to be taken on an empty stomach. It should never be crushed, chewed, nor should the patient break it in any way with nifedipine. The Nifedipine SR pills must be swallowed whole.
When taking Nifedipine SR patients should not drink grapeffruit juice or grapefruit because of the dangerous side effects that could happen with the interaction of grapefruit. Patients should talk with their doctor before using grapefruit when taking Nifedipine SR. The stool might show some signs of Nifedipine SR. This is not dangerous and the patient should not worry when it is in the stool. The body needs to absorb the medication in order for the patient to fully benefit from Nifedipine SR. The patient should not stop taking Nifedipine SR, even when they are feeling better.
If a patient misses a dose of Nifedipine SR they should take it right away unless if it is time for the next dose. Patients should not double up on Nifedipine SR and should just wait until the next dose.
