How to Take Olmesartan/Hydrochlorothiazide
The recommended initial dosage of Olmesartan/ Hydrochlorothiazide for people with high levels of blood pressure or hypertension is 20 mg/12.5 mg to be taken once in a day. Based on the levels of blood pressure, the response of a patient to the medication and the side effects of Olmesartan/ Hydrochlorothiazide, the dosage can either be increased or decreased to get the best results. With each changing dose, it might take several weeks for a patient to get the full effect of Olmesartan/ Hydrochlorothiazide on the blood pressure levels.
If patients require further reduction in the level of blood pressure after a therapy of 2 weeks with 20 mg/12.5 mg of medication, the dosage can be increased to 40 mg. however, dosage more than 40 mg does not have great effect as it is often believed to have. Similarly, taking the medication twice a day also offers no such advantages over the same dose to be taken in total once in a day.
In case of elderly patients, no initial dosage adjustments are recommended.
However, there are certain factors to be considered before administering Olmesartan/ Hydrochlorothiazide to a patient. Factors such as the medical history, any medications being taken at the moment and the basic health condition of the person needs to be taken into account.
