How to Take Propranolol
The dose of propranolol for hypertension patients starts at 40 mg twice a day. The doses are generally increased by the physician after two weeks considering the impact of the drug on the patient. A single dosage of 10mg to 40mg can be administered if you have stage fright or performance anxiety. The drug should be administered 20 to 30 minutes before the occasion. In the case of movement disorders the drug can be taken three times a day of strength 10mg to 30mg. This drug should be taken if antipsychotic drugs have shown its ineffectiveness to the condition. If lithium has been ineffective to the tremors this drug can be administered with a dosage of 20mg to 160mg per day. This dosage can be administered in two to three equally divided dosages. Precautions must be taken before the administration this drug. Patients suffering from kidney failure or having a history of allergic reactions to beta-blockers should be careful while administrating the drug. The drug should be taken orally with a glass of water. The medication should be taken at the same time of the day every day to maintain the level of the drug in the body. The extended release capsules should not be crushed, chewed or cut while taking the drug; it should be swallowed. The extended release capsules are meant to get released in the body slowly. Never skip the dosages or double the dosages.
